As a Contemporary Woman of Distinction, Ms. Henkel was honored for her contributions that have enriched the quality of life in our community. Helen Henkel is deeply committed to community service, acting as a member of the Yonkers Board of Ethics since 1989, a member of the Mayor’s Community Relations Committee since 1991, and serving on the Board of Directors of the Yonkers Exchange Club and as a Board Member of the newly formed Yonkers Arts Inc., in support of the arts in the City of Yonkers. Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, “Helen has been fundamental to the success of organizations and events in the Yonkers community for many years. Everyone who has worked with her, and seen her in action, knows that Helen does everything with enthusiasm, competence, the utmost professionalism, and a sincere love for our City and all of its residents.”

A Resolution was passed in the Senate recognizing Helen Henkel as a Contemporary Woman of Distinction and marking May 25, 2010 as Helen Henkel Day in New York State. “The Contemporary Women of Distinction Celebration is a recognition of those in our community who have selflessly distinguished themselves as exemplary leaders and role models and have devoted themselves to improving our communities, strengthening our families and serving as examples for others. Helen Henkel is someone who is deserving of this honor for her extraordinary contributions to the City of Yonkers and to the quality of life of all New Yorkers,” concluded Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/WF – 35th District).
