Yonkers High School Rated #41 in The Country and #1 in Westchester.
Yonkers NY Jan 12, 2012; City Council Member Michael Sabatino Chair of the Education Committee, congratulates Yonkers HS for placing 41st in the list of Best High Schools. This awards the school Gold Medal Status. This is not the first time such an honor has been bestowed on Yonkers High School.
More than 21,000 public high schools in 48 states and the District of Columbia were analyzed.
Council Member Sabatino said “This is quite an impressive achievement that we should all be proud of here in Yonkers. We need to use this school as a model to help our underperforming schools achieve the same success. I congratulate the students, teachers, parents and administrators for their excellent work.”
A three step process determines the best high schools. The first two steps ensure that the schools serve all their students well, using state proficiency standards as benchmarks. For those schools that make it past the first two steps, a third step assesses the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.

As a teacher at YHS, I can tell you that this is the worse that this school has performed. The administration, including the superintendent, has done everything to bring this school down. If we had continued on the path when this school was I conceived, YHS would have been rated #1 in the country. This building has been turned upside down. All you have to do is come in and talk to the staff. Everyone is disappointed in the lack of support and our inexperienced principal.
