News from The Westchester County Board of Legislators.
Dear Neighbor: Legislation that I strongly supported to give Cold War veterans a property tax break was recently unanimously passed by the Board of Legislators.
This means that men and women who served in the Armed Forces between September 2, 1945 and December 26, 1991 are eligible to receive a break of up to 15% on their county property taxes. Spouses of Cold War veterans (unmarried if the veteran is deceased) are also eligible for a tax exemption. And the legislation gives local municipalities the option of providing their own property tax exemptions to Cold War Veterans.
I enthusiastically backed this legislation to extend a well-deserved benefit to the brave men and women in our military who are always on the ready, knowing that they can be sent in to handle a conflict anywhere in the world at any time. If you’re eligible for the exemption and want more information on how to apply, contact me at 914-995-2846, send me an email at Alvarado@westchesterlegislators.com or get in touch with your local assessor.
